At a roundtable discussion on The Impact of the Ukrainian Crisis on the Middle East and Africa, organised by the MCC Centre in Cluj-Napoca, Viktor Marsai, research director of the Migration Research Institute, said that we are beginning to see Cold War structures in the Third World. African countries are not engaged with either side, as Russia is systematically building in the region: finding gaps in the economy, getting involved and being careful not to interfere in politics. Food and energy prices were already rising before the war, so we do not know yet how much more damage will be done.
