Tamás Dezső is the Director General of the Migration Reseach Institute, a historian, assyriologist, and professor. In 1982 he started his studies in the Faculty of Humanities of Eötvös Loránd University, focusing on Hungarian language and literature as well as history. After graduating he earned his PhD in historical studies in 1997 and habilitated in 2005. From 2001 he worked an associate professor at the Department of Assyriology and Hebrew of the Faculty of Humanities, he was the Vice Director of the Institute of Ancient Studies, then the Research Vice Dean of the Faculty. Between 2006 and 2015 he was the dean of the Faculty of Humanities of Eötvös Loránd University. In recent years he chaired the advisory board of Tempus Public Foundation. Since 2014 he has been to Iraqi Kurdistan eight times, conducting archaeological and monument protection research, studying the situation of persecuted Christians, and has also been at the frontline with Islamic State six times. He has authored several analyses on the migratory aspects of the demographic developments and security situation of the Middle East recently.
